Who are the lecturers?
All instructors at the Wacken Metal Academy are renowned live and studio musicians from the rock and metal scene. They work worldwide with acts such as Beyond the Black, Joachim Witt, Dark Tenor, Lord of the Lost, Subway to Sally, Epica, Korkator, Schandmaul and many more.
What qualification do I have after the two-year full-time training programme?
Career-qualifying certificate ‘as a professional musician in the field of rock & metal’.
What does the Wacken Metal Academy curriculum include?
Major and minor lessons, harmony & ear training, rhythm & groove, music history, pedagogy, arranging, music production, recording, songwriting, music & business, stage performance training, band training, workshops, concerts & jam sessions and much more.
Lessons take place at the Hamburg School of Music. The subjects are taught by HSM and WMA lecturers, all main subjects are taught by our WMA lecturers.
How can I apply and how does the application process work?
You can apply here until 31 May. apply Once we have reviewed your application, we will invite you to the entrance exam. This takes place in July.
The vocational training programme starts at the beginning of October.
Is the course subsidised by BAföG?
Yes! The Hamburg Department of Culture has recognised the full-time training as equivalent in accordance with Section 2 (2) of the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG).
Students: BAföG is not subject to repayment.
What are the contents of the entrance exam?
The entrance examination consists of a theoretical and a practical part. The theory exam covers the areas of harmony, ear training and rhythm. The practical exam consists of an audition (major and minor subject). You can find more information here.
